Former governor of New Hampshire. John Lynch is selling his gorgeous beachside retreat in the British Virgin Islands for a cool $15.9 million.

That price would make it one of the most expensive properties ever sold on the island of Virgin Gorda, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The sprawling 6,000-square-foot estate, located in the upscale Oil Nut Bay resort community, boasts six bedrooms, two kitchens and six outdoor showers.

Additionally, the sale includes all plush furnishings and a pair of golf carts to drive around Oil Nut Bay’s rolling terrain.

The listing is reposted by Roz Colthart of Corcoran BVI.

Lynch and his wife, Dr. Susan Lynch, a retired pediatrician, has been a regular at Virgin Gorda since the 90s. “We’ve been to islands all over the world and we like the BVI the best,” Lynch told the media.

After his tenure as governor from 2005 to 2013, the Lynches leased the home beginning in 2016 — a time when a number of Oil Nut Bay homes had just been completed or were under construction. When their rental came on the market in 2018, they bought it for about $8 million.

Now, they’re looking to sell to spend more time traveling the world.

Each of the home’s six-room apartments features an outdoor shower and a private entrance. The property also includes a gym and a great room with a vaulted ceiling, Colthart told the Journal. Outside – the lounge, dining and barbeque areas overlook an infinity pool and the beach. On the other side, there is a pond frequented by flamingos.

The Lynches visited their tropical getaway twice a year, enjoying snorkeling, sailing, paddleboarding and pickleball with the family. They also bonded with resort staff, inviting them over for drinks and touch football on the beach.

“We don’t use it as much as we could, and we like to travel,” said Lynch, who previously ran furniture giant Knoll. The couple recently embarked on a bucket list trip to Africa.

In addition to their mansion, the Lynches are also selling a nearby lot for $3.6 million where they originally planned to build.

Another Virgin Gorda home is in contract for $16 million, set to break the island’s previous record of $12.6 million, Anthony Campbell of Smiths Gore Christie’s International Real Estate told The Journal.

Luxury homes in Virgin Gorda averaged about $3 million in 2022 and 2023, up from $1.7 million in 2021.

The most expensive home in the British Virgin Islands went for $53.4 million in 2014. Oil Nut Bay is located a very short boat ride from Sir Richard Branson’s famous Necker Island.
